IMPORTANT TENETS OF VAASTUSHASTRA



Vaastushastra is nothing but a building by laws of the ancient days.The shastras are based on specific principles and thus help to regulate the flow of positive energies in the premises as well as prevent the free flow of negative energies.The vaastushastras can be used as guide lines to day in deciding the usage of available space with reference to the available natural environmental conditions.The location of kitchen, bedrooms, living rooms, toilets, storage spaces can be decided with reference to vaastu principles for a better, healthy and prosperous living.The following are the few tenets of vaastu which can be followed while planning the residential buildings.

-The height of the building should decrease from South – West to North-East.

-Installing a statue at the main gate of the building is considered auspicious.

-North-East corner of the house should be kept neat and clean.

-The kitchen, the worship room and the toilet should never be constructed side by side or directly opposite each other.

-As far as possible the toilet rooms should have the seats fixed in north-south position. The septic tank, wherever necessary should be constructed in either north-west or south-east corner of the plot.

-Tree, lamp-post, dustbin and the gate of the main entrance should not be directly in front of the main door of the house.

-Those who are studying should sit facing either North or East while studying.

-Sitting or taking rest or sleeping under the beam should be avoided.
-The main door should be planned in such a way that no body’s shadow falls on it.

-As far as possible the rain water and drainage system should pass through north-east corner.

-It is considered not auspicious and not a good sign if the shadows of trees fall on the main building between 9 AM and 3 PM.

-It is auspicious to place the door leading to the stairs in the building if located in east or south.

-North-west is the best area for utilizing as parking area for vehicles.

-The guard room should be constructed near the main entrance.

-North-East corner being a place for putting up worship room there should be no toilet built or any clutter created in the said corner.

-The main door should be placed or located either in the North or in the East but never in the centre of the directions.

-The owner’s room should be located either in the west or in the south, preferably in the south – west.

-The house can be extended in all four directions.Extending it either in south-west or south-east is not advisable since such extensions may result adversely for the owner and the family or the occupants of the house.

-Alcohol should not be consumed in the bed room, Storing of alcohol, oil tins, insecticides, pesticides, etc should be avoided as such things create mental tensions and aggravate anxieties.

-Underground storing of water (sumps) is absolutely necessary these days, particularly in the cities.Such storage tanks should be constructed in North-East as far as possible.Construction in North-West should be avoided as it is not considered auspicious.

-The cattle shed be built in the north-west corner.

-The openings of doors and windows should be more on the east and north sides of the building than its south and west sides.

-While performing pooja etc, the performer/worshipper should always face North and East direction as these directions are most auspicious for offering prayers / performing poojas. Facing south direction should be avoided.

-While going out of house facing south should be avoided.South is considered most inauspicious.Facing towards the south direction while performing any good works should be avoided.

-Worship room should never be located beneath the staircase of the house.  Even construction of toilets beneath the stair case is not considered good and can be avoided as far as possible.

-The land on which the building is to be constructed should as far as possible be sloping towards North and East directions.So that the water is let out through North-east area.

-Pictures or portraits depicting war, crime, anger, distress, killings should not be hung in the main room of the house.

-A bowl full or raw salt (full to the brim) may be placed in the toilet above head level.It will prevent flow of negative energy.
