SMART DEVICES TO GUARD YOUR HOMES

SMART DEVICES TO GUARD YOUR HOMES

Burglaries have become common now days. Usually thieves target houses in lonely areas. If you live in an independent house, or do not have security personnel on patrol, the chances of getting burgled are more. If the occupants are elderly folks living alone, and if the house is located in a secluded area, the threat is almost double.

The only sure and safe way to save the family and protect property is to install a foolproof security system. Today the market is flooded with numerous alarms and warning devices with all kinds of features.
Knowing the basic components that go into a security system can give you a better understanding of them. It will also enable you to select the most appropriate device for your house.
Control  Panel
The control panel is the 'brain' of a security system.  Powered by low voltage current, it controls the entire security system, and houses the microprocessor unit.  Sensors, alarms, detectors and other devices are connected to it. When the control panel receives an intrusion signal, it analyses the problem, and will take necessary actions like raising an alarm and intimating the police. It is enclosed in a tamperproof metal box, and is usually placed out of sight.
LCD  And  Keypads
The status of the alarm and other parameters appear on an LCD display. Keypads are provided for the user to give commands to the control unit. The system can be activated or de-activated by punching in commands on the key pad.
Sensors
Sensors are considered the 'eyes and ears' of the security system as they are the ones which detect intrusion. Sensors fitted on doors, windows, gates and other entry points outside the house are called perimeter sensors. Sensors installed inside the house to detect movements or unauthorized presence are known as interior sensors.
Some sensors can detect heat and smoke. They are called fire and smoke sensors. Apart from sensors, the security device has an alert button. When this button is pressed, the alarm gets activated.
Signalling  Devices
The following are the events that happen when the sensors detect an intrusion:
- The situation is immediately updated to the control unit, which then determines what device to activate. Depending on the situation, there are numerous alternatives. The simplest signalling device is a loud siren that not only alerts the family and neighbours but also sends the thieves fleeing. High intensity lights can also get switched on, both inside and outside the house. In advanced systems, the security system could be programmed to call up a specified telephone number, and play a pre-recorded message that warns of an intrusion.
- Some security providers also promise 24 hours centralized monitoring of houses. Here if the system detects an intrusion, it will send a message to the central monitoring system. On receiving the message, security personnel immediately inform the police, fire or ambulance, depending on the nature of the crisis.
Pet-Immune Motion Sensors
Some may decide to leave pets inside your house before going out. Motion sensors can differentiate a moving pet from a thief inside your house, and they do not raise false sensors. Since pets normally do not weigh more than 40 pounds, they may go off only when the intruder is heavier than 40 pounds.
Remote  Control
If you don't like punching codes into the key pad every time you leave the house, you can use the remote control. The security system can be armed or disarmed with a push on the remote control. The same remote control can be used for applications like opening garage doors, turning on lights or other appliances. But they are expensive.
Wireless  Glass-Break  Sensor
The wireless glass-break sensor can recognize glass breaking across a full audio band, and will immediately raise an alarm.
Apart from these, security systems have many more additional accessories. You should select a system based on your needs and budget. A smart security system keeps the house safe.
