AN AQUARIUM BRINGS TRANQUILITY IN HOME

The soothing qualities of water are wellknown. It literally emanates tranquility and so if you decide to keep an aquarium in your home you can enjoy double benefits. It definitely improves the decor of the place and improves concentration. Looking at the fish while they swim is an exercise that is much like meditation.

There is something pleasant about having your own aquarium whether it brings any other advantages or not. You have to think about how you will set up an aquarium and what fundamental decisions you have to take before you get one. One decision is whether you want fresh water or salt water fish. In any case you have to make some plans before you begin this task.

An aquarium is easy to bring indoors as compared with other water bodies. It is necessary to see how much space is available in your home before deciding where to put it. You could place it on a table, have it stand alone or build it into a wall like a semi partition. Watching the movements of the fish is highly relaxing. If so desired you can begin with a bowl of water with gold and black fish and get used to it. Before buying the aquarium you should decide where to keep it in order to know what size to buy.

Traditionally aquariums have been made of glass but today you can even think of acrylic ones. Both have their plus points and minus points. Acrylic ones may develop scratches and tend to blur the vision after long use. They are also most often more costly than glass ones. There are different sizes of aquariums as different kinds of fish have differing needs. You should be careful to purchase your equipment and fish from a reputable pet shop. You could get the basic information on maintaining the aquarium and looking after the fish from the shopkeeper. In this way you could come to know how to feed the fish and how often to clean the aquarium.

The choice of accessories should be made with equal care. While cleaning the equipment and accessories care has to be taken to do it with a non soap or detergent based product. If any traces of soap remain on the accessories it will make the aquarium water soapy which will kill the fish. Put some clean gravel in the tank and add the accessories, for example a plastic diver or weeds. They should be properly attached to the ground of the aquarium or they may float on top once the filtration system is turned on.

When you have kept the aquarium in place and put in the filtration system you should fill the aquarium with water but the fish should not be kept in yet. The water level should be an inch below the top of the aquarium. Make sure there is lighting and a thermometer.

The system should be run without the fish for two days so that the water reaches the required temperature and will set into a proper rhythm. Then you can add the fish. Like all other pets, fish too need care and attention. This is a wonderful way to relax and have a soothing pastime.
